3D Scan Processing

Following a 3D scan shoot, clients receive a comprehensive contact sheet featuring all shots, including multiple camera angles, allowing them to select their preferred shots for processing. Our most basic scan service swiftly provides clients with raw data, including photo sets and raw scans generated in Reality Capture.

Going further, we also offer a cleaned data delivery based on two options:
• a simple cleaning pass, removing artifacts and reprojecting textures for turntables or 3D prints,
• a complete and thorough cleaning pass, ensuring models are production-ready through meticulous avatar creation, artifact removal, surface refinement, texture re-projection, and fine-detail geometry application. This comprehensive approach has been employed in major productions such as the Love, Death and Robots Netflix series and the Baldur’s Gate 3 Trailer by Unit Images.

Expressions & FACS Scanning

Our 3D scan services encompass scanned expressions, for which we offer various cleaning options, all including a complete clean of a neutral head:

FACS cleaning involves adapting a neutral cleaned model to the desired expression, ensuring consistent skin deformations in UV space for texture blending. This prepares the model for blendshape creation and is delivered in OBJ or Maya format.
Rig Resolution Blendshapes built upon the initial clean, converting the adjusted model into blendshapes that match the rig’s resolution. In this case, we take care of defining the blendshape areas, their segmentation and the correction of displacements. We deliver the result in OBJ or Maya format.
High Poly Resolution Blendshapes take your model a step further by transferring all micro scanned details to a high-poly model, enhancing the skin surface with fine expression intricacies, and baking geometric information into textures for dynamic shader blending, thereby offering a comprehensive solution for expression refinement. This unlocks the creation of displacement or normal maps and is delivered in OBJ, Maya and Zbrush format.

Hair & Grooming

We provide valuable assistance in simplifying the complex task of crafting CGI haircuts, employing a meticulous manual approach that involves careful analysis of hairstyle shapes and the painstaking reproduction of individual strands. Our grooming techniques, generated using X-Gen for Maya, yield realistic and detailed hair simulations that can be exported as Alembic files and seamlessly integrated into real-time environments like Unreal Engine.

Moreover, upon request, we offer customized hair solutions for Houdini; for specific real-time applications, we can achieve the same high-quality results using haircards and alpha textures, ensuring detailed and realistic hair representations while optimizing performance.

Clothes Scanning & Modeling

Scanning the human figure and capturing the details of human skin, though challenging, can be mastered through experience. Yet, the ever-evolving landscape of cloth materials continues to pose fresh challenges. Our collaborations with renowned fashion brands have given us the ability to offer 3D scan services for complex or exotic surfaces like medieval armor and glossy leather with stunning results.

When it comes to creating avatars, we meticulously break down captures, retopologize patterns for clean UVs and deformation-friendly topology, and project surface details, ensuring the textures are expertly cleaned. Furthermore, we offer the capability to craft clothing from scratch, using industry-standard tools to deliver custom-tailored garments to meet your specific creative needs.

Custom Metahumans

With the advent of Metahumans, a new benchmark for quality and features has been established in the entertainment industry. In response to client demands for this level of excellence, we offer tailor-made Metahumans, allowing for the creation of scanned characters rigged as Metahumans with exceptional quality and personalized features.

This service ensures compatibility and high-quality results, aligning with the industry standard set by Epic Games and 3Lateral’s Metahuman tech. All custom MetaHumans leverage the powerful human rig designed by 3Lateral and are able to use the animation solutions offered by Unreal Engine 5.

Tax Rebate

The Tax Rebate for International Productions (TRIP) is an appealing incentive for filmmakers considering shooting their projects in France. Administered by the CNC, TRIP offers a substantial rebate of up to 30% (or 40% for substantial French VFX expenses) on qualifying expenditures within France, with a maximum cap of €30 million per project.

Eligibility criteria require projects to include elements related to European culture, heritage, and territory. To qualify, projects must allocate a significant portion of their budgets to French expenditures and involve a minimum of 5 days of shooting in France for live-action works.
